Everyone is really amped up for the good times to be had up ahead. We get our summer clothes on before it really gets warm enough to do so comfortably. Everyone seems to be in good spirits and the beach is on our minds. In building a business, there are definitely times when we are excited. Any time we start off on our adventure of building a business, it usually starts with one great idea. This alone invigorates us. It sends lightning bolts of optimism throughout our bodies. We can’t wait to put our great idea into action! Or maybe, we just hired a new person to join our venture. That person has great ideas, and in turn, inspires us. Whatever it may be, there are times when we can’t wait for what’s ahead.

Everyone is having the time of our lives. We’re at the beach, going to the gym, staying active, flying kites, hiking, biking, etc. We’re enjoying each other’s company and having a blast. It’s Getting Colder! Although everyone knows that summer is coming to an end, we are all still looking forward to football season. We can take comfort in the fact that we have our football traditions with friends and family and there are still some great times to be had this year. Summer is over, but that just means that things are changing. In building a business, we all go through changes. As with every change, it’s uncomfortable. One of the only things that we can be absolutely sure of is that there is ABSOLUTELY nothing that we can be sure of. We all have to roll with the punches and deal with whatever change we may be going through. A client may change their specs of a project, the economy may change in your industry, or the government may mandate some new rule that makes it extremely hard to conduct your business. Roll with the punches and embrace the change. Don’t just move to Florida because you prefer warm weather. As the old saying goes, “the grass is always greener,” there’s always somewhere warmer. If you are truly committed to building your business, don’t let change stop you.

So remember what I said about change? This one’s the worst. The fields are hard and frozen over and nothing is growing. No one seems to be enjoying themselves. Everyone is talking about the weather and when the next storm is coming through. People may even be stock-piling groceries just in-case they can’t leave the house for a period of time. The only people that really seem to enjoy the winter are KIDS and winter sport enthusiasts. Granted, there are a few oddballs out there that like snow and cold that don’t fall in to those categories, but there are few. So why are these people having fun and we’re not?

Well, just because everything is dead, doesn’t mean we can’t have a little fun. When things are really bad, we have to find ways to re-energize ourselves and stay productive. It’s really tempting to pack it in when times are tough, and maybe even nearly half-dead! But our businesses aren’t just going to build themselves. We have to realize that most people do pack it in. If we want to be different…tougher…willing…and adaptable enough to rise to the top of our industries, we have to weather every storm with a smile on our face and stay productive!
